Pre-implantation genetic screening (PGT-A)
Pre-implantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy (PGT-A), formerly known as Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS), is a genetic test used during in vitro fertilization (IVF) to analyze embryos for chromosomal abnormalities. Aneuploidy refers to an abnormal number of chromosomes in a cell. PGT-A is designed to identify embryos with the correct number of chromosomes, which can improve the chances of a successful pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.
PGS can identify the embryos that if implanted can lead to babies with syndromes like Down, Edward, Patau, Turner & Klinefelter.
Other benefits of this test are:
– Higher chances of pregnancy
– Reduced risk of miscarriages
– More confidence in transferring a single embryo, avoiding health risks associated with twin or triplet pregnancies
– Reduced number of IVF cycles needed to achieve pregnancy, potentially reducing the time to pregnancy and the costs of extra cycles
